USSSA Wins for Warriors Tournament

Gives Back on Memorial Day Weekend

Pasadena, MD – Over Memorial Day Weekend, May 26-28, 2018, 98 teams competed to raise money for our wounded warriors as part of the USSSA Wins for Warriors Tournament. A donation was made in each team’s name for every win they accumulated to Hero Dogs. Located in Brookville, MD, Hero Dogs is a non-profit organization who pairs service dogs with local military veterans who have been injured or disabled.

In June 2018, USSSA donated $3,000 on behalf of its teams to Hero Dogs. While visiting, USSSA was able to meet some of the Hero Dogs in training, (like the one pictured). Hero Dogs works to improve the quality of life for our nation’s hero’s by raising, training, and placing service dogs and other highly skilled canines, free of charge with those who need support. Even if a dog doesn’t make the cut to become a service dog, Hero Dogs has alternative programs that allow those who are “honorably discharged” to still serve. These programs include Hero Dog Ambassadors who assist with the training program and participate in outreach and educational programs.

The USSSA Wins for Warriors is heading into its fourth year of raising funds for wounded warriors in 2019. Because of the support of the participating teams, USSSA East could once again make a donation to support local veterans’ charities. This event is one of several charitable initiatives that USSSA East and its teams have supported over the last decade.Wounded warrior charities have been gifted more than $10,000 as a result of the USSSA Wins for Warriors event.
