Frequently Asked Questions

I WANT TO START A TEAM. WHAT DO I NEED TO DO FIRST AND WHAT DOES IT INVOLVE?

Aside from the obvious (finding players, buying equipment and uniforms, setting up practices, etc.), there are 4 basic actions that new teams need to perform.

  1. Register your team with USSSA.
  2. Purchase team insurance and email it to [email protected]. Carry a copy of this document with you when participating in USSSA tournaments.
  3. Complete the online roster form, print it, get all players and parents to sign it. Have this document with you at all times when participating in USSSA tournaments. We do not require you to send a copy of your roster to our office.
  4. Choose which tournaments you wish to participate in and register for them online.
WHAT DO I NEED TO DO TO REGISTER MY TEAM?

To register your team with USSSA, you’ll need to go to the Team Registration page, read the instructions, then click on the link found there to begin the procedure. You will be given a USSSA sanction number once you’ve completed the simple registration process. The cost to register your team online with USSSA in 2023 is $60 and is valid from August 1, 2020 to July 31, 2023. By registering with USSSA you become part of a nationwide group of youth softball teams. Your team will be placed on a mailing list for important information, have the ability to purchase team insurance, be able to participate in USSSA tournaments and leagues, receive a rule book as well as other benefits from being part of the USSSA program.

WHAT IS INVOLVED WITH PURCHASING TEAM INSURANCE?

Every team that participates in even one tournament needs to purchase team insurance. Simply put, none of softball’s sanctioning bodies will allow a team to participate that doesn’t have team insurance. USSSA’s insurance carrier is K&K. Teams do not have to purchase their insurance through K&K, but it’s an easy and quick process to do through the USSSA website. The USSSA policy provides both liability and accident coverage for a full year, running from August 1 to July 31 or from January 1 to December 31. In order to purchase team insurance from K&K, teams will need to be registered through USSSA and will need to provide K&K with their sanction number upon application. Click here to purchase a policy or to find out more about the K&K insurance program. Once your team has purchased insurance, whether it was from K&K or another carrier with minimum $1 million liability coverage, you should immediately send a copy of your policy to your State Office so it can be placed on file.

HOW DO I ENTER MY ROSTER ONLINE?

Log into your managers account at www.usssa.com. Select the team which you wish to enter the roster of, select “manage my players” and click submit. (You will need to read and agree to the “USSSA Roster Manager Affidavit” before the system will allow you to enter your roster.) You may then add new players or select former players to populate your roster. Once the roster has been completely entered, you need to print a copy and have the players and parents sign it. Keep this document with you at all times during any USSSA tournament.

HOW DO I REGISTER MY TEAM FOR USSSA TOURNAMENTS?

To get a list of all available tournaments, go to www.usssa.com and login under your ID. Once you’re in under your ID, select the team you wish to enter into a USSSA event, then select “Search and Enter Events”, select the parameters you’re looking for, then click “Search”. Click on the name of the event which you are interested in entering/getting more details. Any tournaments can be added to your shopping cart. You can elect to pay now, or enter into more than one tournament at the moment and pay for them all at once, with a credit card or you may select the “Enter Now, Pay Later” option.

CAN USSSA REGISTERED TEAMS PARTICIPATE IN OTHER ORGANIZATION'S TOURNAMENTS?

Absolutely. In fact, we encourage teams to play in tournaments run by other organizations. Although we believe USSSA will offer your team the most opportunity overall, we also understand that each weekend is different, and depending on your team’s situation another organization might provide you a better solution for that particular weekend. Contrary to what many people might think, the directors of each sanctioning body do get along with\none another and help each other in every way they can. For the most part, the various associations work with, not against, each other.
