Summary of 2008 USSSA Fast Pitch Rule &
Procedural Changes
Effective Aug 1, 2007
There have been many editorial changes to the seventh edition involving restructuring for consistency, additions for completeness, and expansion for clarity. The intend is not to alter the playing rules but to state explicitly the current rules and accepted interpretations.
The following changes have been enacted:
1. The playing rules for 10 & Under will be the same as all other age groups. The following 10 & Under exceptions to the playing rules have been removed.
A. The Infield fly exception has been removed. The Infield fly rule will apply.
B. The uncaught third strike exception has been removed. The uncaught third strike rule will apply. The batter/runner can advance on an uncaught 3rd strike if first base is unoccupied or there are two outs.
2. 8, 9, & 10 under will pitch from 35 feet.
3. 18 under A will pitch from 43 feet.
4. Run Rule is 12 runs after 3 innings; 10 runs after 4 innings and 8 runs after 5 innings.
5. The Additional Players (AP) remains optional but up to Two (2) APs will be allowed.
6. Protest fee will not exceed $150.
